Northern Opportunity Works (NOW) (CARF Accredited)

Northern Opportunity Works (NOW) is an affiliate of Northland Counseling Center offering vocational rehabilitation services to persons 18 years and older who access mental health services. Our goal is to assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining suitable employment based on their personal strengths and preferences.

NOW fulfills our mission by providing job development services, including searching for employment, connecting with employers and completing the hiring process.

Our employee support services include assistance in training for a new job, job adjustment, job retention and advancement. Services are tailored to individual employees.

CONSUMER RIGHTS

It is the policy of Northern Opportunity Works to preserve and enhance the dignity of each person requesting or receiving services from Northern Opportunity Works. It is also our policy to comply with laws and public policies which govern relationships between consumers and facilities like ours. It is the policy of Northern Opportunity Works not to restrict the rights of its consumers.

  1. You have the right to considerate and respectful service. Northern Opportunity Works does not discriminate against any person on the basis of age, gender, race, ethnicity, language, disability, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic status or veteran status.
  2. You have the right to refuse service or end your services with NOW.
  3. Can reasonably expect to obtain from appropriate staff, complete and current information concerning their assessment, services and needs in terms and language clients can reasonably be expected to understand. In cases in which it is not medically advisable to give the information to the client, the information may be made available to the appropriate person on their behalf.
  4. Have the right to know, by name, and specialty if any, the staff responsible for coordination of their care.
  5. Have the right to every consideration of their privacy and individuality as it relates to their social, religious, and psychological well-being.
  6. Have the right to expect NOW staff to make reasonable response to your requests in a timely manner.
  7. Will be fully informed prior to, or at the time of admission, during their time of admission and during their time of services available and of related charges including any charges for services not covered by DEED.
  8. You have the right to expect that if a scheduled appointment cannot be kept, you will be advised in a reasonable period of time. If on the job training is scheduled, NOW staff will make best efforts to replace absent staff as needed.
  9. You have the right to be free from mental and physical abuse.
  10. Sexual contact or any form of exploitation of consumers by staff is prohibited.
  11. You have the right to privacy and confidentiality. Information about you is released to other persons or organization only with your permission. There are exceptions to this policy—example, we must report child abuse or behavior that is dangerous to yourself or others. We may also respond to subpoenas from courts of law.
  12. You have the right to review all information that Northern Opportunity Works has about you in our files.
  13. You have the right and obligation to participate in the development of your individual service or placement plan.
  14. You have the right to know the qualifications of the staff member providing service to you.
  15. You have the right to file a complaint without prejudice or retribution; to pursue it beyond the agency level, if so desired, and to receive clear written responses at every step of the complaint resolution process.
  16. Will be assured confidential handling of their personal and medical record, and may approve or refuse your release to any individual outside the facility, except as otherwise provided by law and persons identified on the Tennessen Warning.
  17. Will be fully informed, prior to or at the time of admission, of the rights and responsibilities set forth in this section and of all rules governing client conduct and responsibilities.
  18. You have the right to be free from humiliation.
  19. You have the right to be free from neglect.
  20. You have the right to external review. Recommendations for legal advice is listed at the end of this booklet.
